West Chester Interior Design

Remodeling can be an exciting time for many homeowners; but if not properly managed, a remodeling project can lead to a lot of frustration and stress. At Lisa Quale Interiors, a West Chester Interior Design firm, we coordinate with contractors, develop a detailed design plan and keep an open line of communication so our clients not only enjoy the finished space, they actually enjoy the process.

It’s All in the Details

When it comes to creating a space that suits your personal style, there are countless details to manage. From millwork to lighting design and everything in between, it’s not surprising that breakdowns in communication are common. At Lisa Quale Interiors, we provide design development, construction drawings and project coordination through our Construction Consulting service. Creating a cohesive plan with detailed drawings to share with your builder ensures your entire team is on the same page from the start.

Once the renovation begins, we work with your contractors throughout the process to ensure that every detail, no matter how small, is considered. For example, simply selecting Carrara marble to be used throughout your newly renovated bathroom isn’t clear enough direction. Because tiles and slabs are quarried from different parts of the mountain, we check the natural variations to make sure the stones you receive work together, and you get the high-quality look you’d hoped for. When working with Lisa Quale interiors, you can rely on our expertise to guide you through these kinds of decisions. Our commitment to detailed planning not only makes communicating easier, it can prevent costly mistakes from happening.

When Things Don’t Go As Planned

Invariably, setbacks do happen. When things don’t go as planned during a remodel, it can cause tension and stress in your household. At Lisa Quale Interiors, we take the stress out of the remodel by taking the problem out of your hands. Allow us to work directly with your contractor to resolve any issues that arise so that you can simply look forward to the finished space rather than sweating the small stuff.

Protect Your Investment

Lisa Quale Interiors redesigned this dated North Wales master bathroom into a relaxing carrara marble retreat.  Unique storage features were incorporated into the custom cabinetry made by Amish craftsmen.   Traditional profiles in the raised panel cabinetry and millwork were highlighted with a slate grey glaze.

The undermount rectangular sinks were echoed by the stepped mirror frames and contrasted by the curves of the brushed nickel faucets.

Details like a seamless slab tub deck, slab shower jambs, and radiant heat flooring added to the luxurious design.

The shower, which doubled in size, is now a spa-like experience with the addition of the rainshower head, body sprays, and hand showers.   The shower surround field tile is a classic brick tile but in a contemporary 6” x 12” size with coordinating 2” hexagon shower flooring.    Diagonal, large format 18” x 18” floor tiles were used to minimize groutlines and make the room appear larger.

Triple vanity lights were placed over each mirror.   The embroidered window valance was pleated to take advantage of a tonal stripe and was mounted high to elongate the small window.  Paint and fabrics were selected in soft blue-grey and white to create an airy and peaceful, low-contrast space that is truly award-worthy.

Prioritizing projects in your new home

posted in: Blog | 0

Prioritizing projects in your new homeHome buyers get overwhelmed when they move into a new home trying to figure out where to start.  The bedroom may need painting, the wallpaper in the kitchen really doesn’t fit your style, or the bathrooms may have that 1980’s look.  For a while, it can feel like you are living in someone else’s house.  Here are some of my tips on how to prioritize home projects to transform your house into your home.

  • Children’s bedrooms should be the first project undertaken so that they feel comfortable and excited about their new home.
  • Replacing window treatments and painting are the quickest ways to remove the old homeowner’s personality.
  • Make sure your purchases are part of a well-defined plan for the decor in each room.  If you don’t know what you are looking for, how are you going to know when you find it?   When I work with clients, I create a floor plan which is the canvas that allows me to assign colors and patterns in the space based on the Principles of Art and Design such as: balance, repetition, and proportion.  With my affordable Design Action Plan Service, I give you a detailed shopping list and you manage your interior decorating project, at your own pace, through retail stores and catalogs.
  • Don’t just replace the intolerable with the tolerable, find something you love.
  • Take a full inventory of all the projects that you’d like to do and estimate the required budgets.  Oftentimes, clients haven’t shopped for furniture in many years so their budgets are unrealistic.  I teach clients what they can expect to pay for the level of quality they are looking for.  You can educate yourself by refreshing your memory at websites of your favorite furniture stores.
  • It can get overwhelming, so completing a quick, affordable project can give you a sense of accomplishment and a boost of motivation to keep going.
  • It is better to have one room completely done than to have a lot of half-finished spaces.  If your budget doesn’t allow you to do it all at once, work step by step to get that space to completion without getting distracted by other projects.

Are you overwhelmed by the decorating or remodeling projects you need to do to make your new house feel like your own?

Once you’re settled in and ready to get started transforming your house into a home, I can help you avoid costly mistakes, educate you on how best to invest your budget, and give you confidence that the selections you make will work as a cohesive whole. Call me at 484.995.3958 for a consultation.

I was just quoted in this article about Designing Your Ideal Home: A Room-By-Room Guide.  It goes through each room in the house and different designers discuss the technologies and trends transforming the way we live.  My particular contribution was about the rising popularity of multi-generational living.

“Multi-generational living is a big trend in new construction. Driving this trend is the desire to accommodate elderly parents or adult children without the pitfalls of living together. These multi-generational homes have two entrances, separate living areas, and a first-floor master bedroom.” – Lisa Quale

Farmhouse Office in Garnet Valley

I recently presented a design for a home office in Garnet Valley, PA.  My client is going to start working from home so she knew she would be spending a lot of time in her office and she wanted a professional to pull it all together.

At our initial meeting, I gave her my style quiz to determine what look she would love and we talked about some inspiration images she had selected.  She liked casual, farmhouse style, but didn’t want it to be too rustic.  Then, I talked to her about how much she might expect to spend for various levels of quality and we were able to come up with a comprehensive itemized list of selections needed and a budget for decorating her space.  She decided to do some of the legwork herself so and purchase through retail sources, but the space needed a WOW desk which I found through my trade resources.

Here is the email she sent me after looking over my selections.  With all the exclamation points and CAPS, I’d say she likes it!

It is great!  Dead on to what I was looking for – it is cohesive and the dimensions of the furniture are well thought out for the space.  I also LOVE the desk, something I would have never come up with!  And I’m thrilled to see that a number of the items came in well under budget.
